Custom Filters and Block List Add Custom Filters to your Excite Email account.

You can define up to 11 filters to route incoming emails to folders of your choosing by filling in the following fields on the Custom Filtering page.

To do so, click on the Preferences link on the lefthand navigation bar while signed in to Excite email. On the resulting page, under the heading of "Message Options/Filtering" you will see the following options:
  • Filters Summary
  • Custom Filters
  • Safe List
  • Block List
Click "Custom Filters" on the resulting page to do the following:
  • Select if you want to filter by Subject, From Name, From Address, To or CC line
    • Subject will look within the subject line of an incoming message
    • From Name will filter based on the sender name of the incoming message
    • From Address will filter based on the email address of the sender of the incoming message
    • To or CC line will filter based on the address within the TO: or CC: line of the incoming message

  • Select the criteria for matching the filter from either includes, doesn't include, starts with, contains word/ phrase, ends with, or exactly matches.
  • Enter the text that you would like the filter to match against
  • Select the appropriate folder to route messages into. You can select either system folders such as Sent or Trash, or folders that you have personally created within your account.

Please be sure to check the "Enabled" check box above any filter that you are setting up in order to turn that filter on.

When you have finished setting up all your filters, click on the "Save" button at the top or bottom of the Custom Filter page. If you do not click on the "Save" button, your changes will be lost.

Moving a filter up or down in the Custom Filter Hierarchy

The Excite Custom filters are processed in the order that they are displayed in the custom filter page. If you would like to change the order of these filters, you can do so using the "Move Up" or "Move Down" buttons.

To move a filter one step towards the top of the filter hierarchy, click on the "Move Up" button to the right of that particular filter.

To move a filter one step towards the bottom of the filter hierarchy, click on the "Move Down" button to the right of that particular filter.

You can move a filter multiple steps up or down by clicking the "Move Up" or "Move Down" button multiple times.

Tips for setting up Custom Filters
  • To create a new email folder for filtered messages, select "ADD" from the Folders pull-down menu (left column), then name the folder and hit Add.
  • Move individual filters higher or lower on the page to establish your preferred filtering priority order. Emails meeting more than one filter's criteria will be filed by whichever filter has higher priority. (Remember to click Save after reprioritizing your list.)
  • You may enter up to 50 characters into your filter's text box (located to the immediate left of the Move Up/Move Down buttons).
  • You may enter only 1 email address or domain name per filter (when using the "From Address" option)
  • When entering an email address into your filter's text box, please use the following format: sendername@domainname.com
  • When entering a domain name into your filter's text box, please use the following format: @domainname.com

Add a Custom Block List to your Excite Email account.

Help stop Spam from entering your Inbox by blocking specific addresses or domains.

From Your Inbox or Personalized Folder:

If you have received an unwanted email and would like to block future emails from the sender's address, simply:
  • Check the box next to the incoming email and click the "Block" button.
  • On the resulting page, choose to block either the address or the domain by clicking one of the radio buttons. Then click "Save."
  • A pop-up box will confirm your decision. Click the "ok" button.
From the Preferences Page:

If you would like to manually set up a Block List, sign into your Excite email account, click on the Mail Preferences link in the right corner of the upper-navigation bar. On the resulting page, under the heading of Mail Handling, choose "Block List."

You can add individual addresses or entire domains to your custom Block List. Just enter the address or domain name in the empty field on the left of the screen and click the "Add" button. The address/domain that you just entered will be included in the Block List on the right side of the screen.

To remove an address/domain from your Block List, click once on the address/domain listed in the Block List field, then click the "Remove" button. The address/domain will be removed from your Block List and messages from that address/domain will no longer be blocked from your Excite Inbox.

Please note that if you have set up one or more email filter rules, these will override any blocking requests. So if an incoming message with an email address or domain name that you wish blocked meets any of your filter rules, that message will be filed in the specified filter folder rather than being blocked.

Use your Safe List to exclude addresses and Domains from your Block List and Bulk Mail Folder.

Exclude a particular email address or domain from your Block List or filter emails from your Bulk folder to your Inbox.

From the Preferences Page:

To set up a Safe List of email addresses and/or domains, click on the Mail Preferences link on the right of the upper-navigation bar while signed in to your Excite Email account. On the resulting page, under the heading of Mail Handling, choose "Safe List."

You can add email addresses or domains to your Safe List to exclude them from your Block List or Bulk Folder. Just enter the address or domain name to the empty field on the left of the screen and click the "Add" button. The address/domain that you just entered will be included in the Safe List on the right side of the screen.

To remove an email address or domain name, highlight it within your Safe List box, then click "Remove." You may remove as many addresses or domains as you like, but you must remove them one at a time. Click "Save" when you are finished.

Please note that if you have set up one or more email filter rules, these will override any Safe List requests. So, if an incoming message with an email address or domain name that you would like to block meets any of your filter rules, that message will be routed to the filter folder and will not be Safe Listed into your Inbox.

From your Bulk Mail Folder

If you receive a message in your Bulk folder that should have been sent to your Inbox, you can add that domain or address to your Safe List by clicking "Not Bulk" – Mark the checkbox next to the message(s) and click the "Not Bulk" button. Select whether you would like to add the email address or the domain name to your Safe List and click Save.
